It was pitch dark, I was chilled to the bone, fear gripped me, help was nearby all I had to do was shout but the scream was stuck in my throat. I was in the throes of sleep paralysis, a state that occurs when falling asleep or waking up, when we are faced with a temporary inability to move. This usually occurs once or twice in our lifetimes.
But there is another form of paralysis that I have faced often in my life – Speech Paralysis. From the day my mother said Children should be seen and not heard till now many of my words, thoughts and outbursts have stuck in my throat. Lack of knowledge, lack of guts and lack of a right avenue has rendered me speechless.
It was not until recently that I realised the injustices I have been exposed to because of my own self, the people around me and the society. With the realisation it dawned on me that by God’s grace and trial & error I was lucky enough to face these tribulations and make it in life. But how I wished I had been able to scream and call out for help when I was going through the challenges in my life. How many people are out there who also suffer from Speech Paralysis.
This blog is my attempt to Find my Voice and also be the Voice of many people like me. My goal is to Speak to get justice or support not to be just heard.
